Artist's Comments

Edit// Like many people suggested (and I myself noticed) I decided to lengthen the skirt, thus making her less stubby. I also erased her belly button, so it can be where it should be: out of sight.

A doodle in math turned into a character; this isn't the original doodle, but a bigger, second try at her design.

I may do a back view, because her hair and outfit are pretty interesting. Her design is still up for tweaks, but I'm happy with her hair and this outfit for now.

I intended for her to be simple, but still elegant and refined looking, and have some intricacies that aren't too hard to recreate or manage.

Her hair loops in the back; basically, it's for pieces of hair drawn through a large bead sort of thing so that it creates the sort of circles you see here (I may just scan in the back view and first design, then photoshop it to this in a corner or something).

She's hesitantly named Tsukimi, if only because of it's relation to the meaning of 'Moon'; I imagine her to be some sort of gaurdian or keeper of the moon and tides, thus the title, and why her clothes are simple and flowy.

She's generally quiet, and simply likes to watch most of the time. However, like the tides, she can change her mood when you least expect it.

She turned out really well. ^_^ I love the expression on her face, very thoughtful.
You may, however need to either shorten the arms or lengthen her legs and bring her waistline in a bit. Her hips and breasts are just fine though.

Overall, I like her design though.

I hope I didn't offend you or anything. XD

The proportions look well matched! ( O__O )!
This would make a good shoujo style

Her arms are actually pretty short (her hands stop at her thighs like they should. xD

She just has long sleeves. I plan on making the skirt longer so you can't see her feet, I think that's what's throwing it off.

What's wrong with a big waisted lady? =o
I actually did have her with a small waist, but then her hips were too big (it was actually pretty disgusting), so I decided to give her a thicker sort of build.

But since I fail at anatomy, it obviously threw off the picture. xD

Thanks. I thought she looked awkward. > <
But if you think it looks nice, maybe it's just me? Then again, someone else commented she looked awkward. xD

I don't think her eyes are big enough to be shoujo, lol. ;3

Haha. I thought that may have been the case with the arms. You should probably lengthen the skirt a bit. Or make it a little more form-fitting, you could make it a little more "mermaid-style". It'd give the illusion of her legs being longer.

There's nothing wrong with a big waisted lady >.>
I don't mind the thicker build at all, to be honest.

You don't fail at anatomy, you just need to practice. Haha

To be an honest and friendly critic, I shall give you some advice. Because I'm a nice person, no matter what that anger-management book says!

Anime/Manga is a little different from actual body proportions; the head is usually bigger in contrast to the body, and depending on the style the limbs may be elongated and thin. So, unlike in real life where you can use head measures to achieve VERY accurate results, manga/anime is a little more difficult. Just a little factoid there.

So, let's deal with some cons first, starting from the top with her head... D'okay, nothing wrong there, but I noticed her hair is a little strange-looking on her right side. It seems a little stiff. Down to the breasts, I dunno, they seem off to me. It might be 'cause I've been drawing big ones lately. Big-waists aren't a problem, but it needs some definition, it looks kinda straight. The skinniest part of her waist seems to high in relation to her belly-button. Her hips are fine, but then we get to the legs which have already been discussed. A longer skirt would give the appearance of longer legs, yes.

I don't really care about folds or shading, I've never been good at that stuff.

And pros: Her face is really pretty, very well done. Especially the eyes, you're good at the eyes. And her hair has much detail without going overboard. Her overall design is also really pretty, but simple and easy to draw (I get scared off from over-detailed designs).

Hopefully, I didn't offend you, or anything. I have friends who get defensive over soft critique, so I try to be careful.

Congratulations, I'm about to take 7 seconds of your life away from you. You're never going to get them back. They belong to ME now.

DOESN'T AFRAID OF ANYTHING.

If I remember right, the skirt is actually pretty much clinging to her thighs already, so it would make her look HUGE if I made the skirt tighter in this picture at least. But, it's all pencil, so I can try a few things still.

Still there are other pictures. I might even shorten the sleeves. I've gotten into the habit because I hate hands.
But I think making the skirt longer by hiding her feet would make it better.

No, I fail. xD
I've been practicing, but... eh, I suppose it could be because I didn't use any guidelines for this one.

The right side being her bangs, or the right side being the hair near her shoulders? Either way, I can understand it looks awkward. I'm probably going to make looser strands that stand away from the rest of it, to give it more life in the future.

I don't know about the breasts really, it's how I've always drawn them. They could easily be messed up, and I'd never know. I'll find a reference (it'd probably help).

I made her with a small torso which I don't have, but after molesting myself, I'm pretty sure my wasit tapers in at the same place as well, below the ribcage. So maybe if I lower her belly-button? It's too high to where I think her ribcage would end, though I'm not the best model, because I have a long torso.

But yeah, I'm definitely going to lengthen to skirt. It didn't look awkward to me until after I had scanned it, and that was the first thing I noted that I should fix. It makes her look stubby.

I don't care about folds or shading either, I hate them. So I only put them on material I thought would be lighter. -Is a cheater.-

Hey, faces are about all I can do. ;3

I wasn't offended. I'd tell you if I was. xD
